Garden City

Does your heart crave to see the whole world in one shot? If it does, head straight for the pensioners paradise turned urban jungle, Bangalore! A composite culture there is a little bit of the rest of the world in Bangalore's old world charm and new found opulence. The glass and steel monoliths, the beautiful lanes lined with Gulmohar trees, swanky malls, stores and restaurant, old bungalows and roads built by the British all co-exist here. Crowded roads and tiny lanes cramped with vehicles and animals, repair work and flyover construction, arrival of VIP's all come together in creating the city's infamous and inevitable traffic limbo. But Bangalore with its adjust maadi attitude takes it all in its stride while settling very nicely into its niche of being a true cosmopolitan city.

Where to Eat
Bangalore is well known to be the conglomeration for cuisines from all over the world. You name it and there will be some tiny / big restaurant or hotel dishing it out in the authentic style or with a difference influenced by the local taste. You can discover sheer vegetarian delight at the MTR Branches, Shanthi Sagars, Sukh Sagars and Shreenidhi Sagars scattered around the city. They deliver tasty mouth watering simple meals and dishes at a surprising speed catering to the local IT and other office goers. The Dosas and Idlis with a generous helping of Sambhars and Chutneys are big draws. One has to feast on the famous local dish Bisi Bele Bath, served with dollops of ghee and potato wafers, these have to be eaten hot. The Chinese Restaurants in Bangalore serve finger licking good dishes from the Orient. You cannot go wrong when you choose to dine at either of these restaurants - the Rice Bowl chain, Chung Wah, Mandarin Room, Szechwan Court and Jade Garden. Sample some amazing sea food at the Karavalli at the Gateway Hotel, the atmosphere here is a reminder of the beautiful backwaters of Kerala. They specialize in Idiappams with avial, tiger prawns fried or used in curries, kori kempu and their fish curry is a gourmet's delight. Visit Sunny's for a wholesome Italian fare. Their Pita Bread, feta cheese with lettuce salad, black pepper fettuccine and wild mushrooms are to die for. Their pasta is something you won't forget for a long time to come. Visit Koshy's for their delicious and renowned appam and stew. For some Bengali fare, visit Mishti on 80ft road Koramangala. Have big soft and wobbly pieces of delicious paneer dunked on your plate at Samarkhand. The place is done up tastefully, is lively and the food is absolutely delicious. Walk into TGIF (Thank God It's Friday) on Airport road which is ironically quite the hang out on Fridays! The restaurant is donned up with various symbols from America - cowboy hats, guitars, canoes, license plates, pictures etc., their mock tails and chicken dishes are a big draw.
