Coffee Country

Forget the alarm clocks and watches. Vacation is not the time for them! Smile, for here at Coorg, you have Mother Nature waking you up to the gentle chirping of birds. Look out over yonder with a cuppa coffee and stretch your legs. This small, hilly region within Karnataka, is surrounded by lush green forests, undulating paddy fields, neat trim coffee plantations stretched out in row for as far as eyes can see. The thick pleasant mist rolling down the woods, a lovely blue sky, gurgling brooks and streams, it is no wonder that the region is called Scotland of the East. Nirvana! If this is not it then what is?

Coorg promises to cater to your whims and fancy. A lazy morning walk or an adventurous outing! Be it a walk in the rain or the aroma of the damp earth which surrounds you with a feeling of sublime peace and tranquility, you just enter a time wrap here. It takes you back to your bygone childhood. It takes you back to your carefree days. That, my friend is what Coorg is all about!

At a Glance
The picture perfect region is situated at an elevation of over 5,000 ft above sea level. Coorg is a highland country, perched on the escarpment of the Western Ghats. It is bound by Hassan district on the north and by Mysore on the east by the Malabar area of Kerala on the south and by the South Canara district of Karnataka on the west.
When to Visit:
Coorg enjoys a moderate climate. Winters are pleasantly cool at about 18C, though between December and February, the minimum temperature may go down to 9C. Summers are only slightly warm at 25C to 30C. June-August sees heavy rainfall. So the best time to visit Kodagu is from October-April. But those who can brave the monsoon showers are rewarded with unforgettable sights.
Orientation & Getting Around:
Frequent travelers to these parts recommend the use of the sturdy Mahindra Jeep. One can hire these from Madikeri. Most people drive down to Coorg from Bangalore and go around the place in their own vehicles. Getting a taxi or public transport in Coorg is not easy and if procured is pretty unreliable. Most locals end up walking or cycling around the region. It is a good option to do that, but be sure to take a road map along, so you don't get lost in the endless roads that look alike.
