Shopping
Kotwali Bazaar in Lower Dharamsala is where you will find everything from wool to woollens, including the locally-woven Kullu and Kinnauri shawls, scarves and socks. Here too are shops for books, souvenirs and the like, though the bazaar mostly caters to the local population.
More fun shopping, however, is in McLeodganj. Here are Tibetan carpets, thankas, wooden masks, metal votive objects, paper drawings, beads and baubles, and all manner of interesting things. Most of these are, of course, also available on Delhi?s Janpath, but they look more colourful here, brighter and much more interesting. You?ll find T-shirts, jewellery, lamps and statuettes in the tiny shops, and sometimes foreigners will sell off personal possessions. But if you enjoy poking around interesting shops then Nowroji's, at the entrance to McLeodganj, is a good place to potter around for unusual finds and practical, everyday needs.
