At a Glance
Lonavala and Khandala are twin hill stations located on the western slopes of the Sahyadri's. Just 5-km apart from each other they straddle the Mumbai-Pune highway at an altitude of 625m.
When to Visit:
The period between May to October is generally considered the best time to visit Khandala. The remaining months of the calendar namely June-September is the monsoon season and is it is not advisable to visit these hill-stations during this period. Summer temperatures reach a maximum of 36° C and touch minimum temperatures of 12° C in winter.
Orientation & Getting Around:
Visitors to Lonavala and Khandala can move around with ease by hiring taxis and auto-rickshaws. Though the roads are bumpy due to the hilly terrain, you can zip around between both hill stations within 15 minutes.
