Dharmasthala  
(75 km)

Situated 75 km east of Mangalore, it has a number of Jain bastis and the famous Manjunatha Temple. Visited by thousands of devotees, the temple offers free lunch to all, everyday. There's also a 14-m high Bahubali statue. Several towns around Dharmastala also have significant Jain bastis. These include Venur (50 km northeast of Mangalore city), Mudabidri (35 km northeast of Mangalore), and Karkal, which is famous for several important temples and a Bahubali statue dating back to 1432. On a serene hillock, it offers a good view of the Western Ghats.


Kukke Subrahmanya Temple  
(100 km)

The temple is located in the village of Subrahmanya, nestled in the luxurious lap of nature at its beautiful best. It is said that Shankaracharya camped here for a few days during his religious expedition (Digvijaya). Subrahmanya is about 100 km from Mangalore.


Pilikula Nisargadhama  

Legend has it that tigers and Dakshina Kannada were synonymous with each other. Pilikula translates into 'pond of tigers' in Tulu language. It is situated on the Mangalore-Karkala highway and is spread over a beautiful area of 100 acres.


Kateel  
(30 km)

About 30 km from Mangalore, Goddess Durga Parmeswari is supposed to have made this her home. The temple dedicated to her stands in middle of a river.


Turtle Bay  
(12 km)

Located about 12 km away from Kundapur and off the Mangalore-Karwar highway is the beautiful Turtle Bay. The lapping Arabian Sea, calm backwaters of the River Sowparnika, breathtaking nature walks, treks along the scenic coast, clean water for snorkelling and scuba diving, you can't ask for more!
