This hilltop temple town lies on an offshoot of the Panhala-Kolhapur Road. Long flights of stairs, lined with little stalls peddling puja offerings, lead from the parking lot to the temple complex in which the family deity of the royal house of the Scindias resides. The legend goes that Jyotiba is an incarnation of three gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and also the seer Jamadagni. A mammoth, colourful fair takes place on the full-moon nights of the Hindu months of Chaitra and Vaishakh. The entire hill seems to turn pink with the sprinkling of gulal during the festivities. Even on non-festive days here, you'll find your typical temple melee, alive with colour and the buzz of cows, devotees and priests milling around.
