Driving in Santiago isn't too bad, especially if you've seen what drivers do in Argentina. If you prefer to rely on local drivers, Santiago has abundant metered taxis - black with yellow roofs - and rip-offs are uncommon. Heavy traffic and narrow streets make cycling a bad bet, despite the relatively flat terrain. The busy roads also make walking hazardous, although the city's parks provide places where you can indulge in a little recreational walking. If time is limited, organised tours can be a godsend: choose from walking tours, city tours and excursions to wineries and ski fields.
