nothing lonely about the planet
Shivpuri
(Madhya Pradesh)
Royal Hunting Ground
It?s hard to imagine while on the road to Shivpuri that you're headed for the jungle, because the countryside is more barren than wooded. But it was to the Madhav Vilas Palace here that the Scindia rulers would come to spend their summer months, making either their now legendary shikar jaunts or setting out on pilgrimage. Though visitors may be drawn here by the promise of wildlife, it is the chhatris or cenotaphs of some of the Scindia ancestors that linger in the mind long after the visit to Shivpuri is done.
Things to see and do
The main attractions here are the wildlife sanctuary and marble chhatris. Don't expect too much of Shivpuri town itself like Gwalior, it is excessively dirty, with little or nothing by way of civic facilities.
At a Glance
This little known wildlife sanctuary is 112 km from Gwalior, in north-central Madhya Pradesh.

Winter is best; summer is unbearably hot. The park stays open in the rains, but the roads aren't good atthis time.
