Heaven by the Sea

Maharashtra Tourism is very proud of Tarkarli. Why go to Greece to get a tan, they say, when you have your very own acre of heaven by the sea right here in Sindhudurg District. We've examined the powder-white sands of what must be the most beautiful beach in all of Maharashtra, if not in India, and we have to agree.

Already, international cruise liners, notorious for spotting winning beaches before Everyone Else, are dropping anchor at Tarkarli on their way across the Seven Seas. Already, the shining jewel on the coast of Sindhudurg is being discovered by overjoyed urbanites. Go to Tarkarli now, before this secret hideaway becomes a told tale.

As you drive past coconut palm-shrouded Malvan and into the MTDC resort, you'll find it's been built right on the pristine sands. But don't waste time examining the toilet for hygiene and the beds for bugs. Race down the flour-white beach and test the waters. They are as warm as a bath and as clear as god intended. Way out in the distance Sindhudurg, the imposing sea fort built by Shivaji himself, floats like a ghostly galleon on the wrinkled waters of the Arabian. Way up above, a lone Konkani kite reels in blissful enjoyment over the acre of heaven and sea in which you frolic. Little else moves save the leaves of the suru trees on the beach. Little can be heard save for the rustling of coco palms. Ah, here is bliss indeed.
